There was an acting principal for that period (the Deputy in charge of Academics). The new principal, Mr Graham Sayer, began in July 2024. The transition was very smooth due to the experience and effectiveness of the Senior Management Team, the SGB and the senior staff members. 2/20/2025 5:07:42 PM - Message: ResponseValue to add :- questionText:Please note any significant changes to the Teacher Learnership Programme in 2024:, Value:None. 2/20/2025 5:07:42 PM - Message: ResponseValue to add :- questionText:1. We didn't spend the full bucket on University fees. 2/20/2025 5:07:42 PM - Message: ResponseValue to add :- questionText:1. Please elaborate on how the school tracks Epoch and Optima interns:, Value:Both the mentors and programme facilitator maintain regular contact in the first year following completion of the internship and then make occasional contact with them over the years. We have not managed to keep up to date with all of them from the inception of the programme. We have been maintaining the database as much as has been possible. 2/20/2025 5:07:42 PM - Message: ResponseValue to add :- questionText:1. Please share the highlights in 2024:, Value:The highlights of the programme remain the progress that we observe in the interns in terms of ease in the classroom, content knowledge, classroom management and professional conduct. A particular highlight has been that three of the four 2024 interns have already been employed in full time posts, including one that we were able to retain at Pinelands High. This is remarkable considering the reduction in teaching posts. 2/20/2025 5:07:42 PM - Message: ResponseValue to add :- questionText:2. Any challenges in 2024:, Value:The only notable challenge was those arising from the neuro-diversity of one of the interns. We worked differently with him and saw some good progress in some areas. However, we needed to step in and do more co-teaching with him until the end of the year (which is different to the greater responsibilities given to the other interns) as he didn't always manage to tackle more than one key growth area at a time. There was, however, evidence that he had made good progress and he was one of the three interns who found full time employment, but in a school that was smaller than ours which was more suitable to his particular "wiring". 2/20/2025 5:07:42 PM - Message: ResponseValue to add :- questionText:3. Please share any lessons learnt and recommendations for the Teacher Learnership Programme:, Value:One of the things that we have changed as we go into 2025 is that we are not giving interns the responsibility for a class on their own. They are co-teaching with the mentor and given sections of (supervised) content to teach. We are also ensuring that they receive good grounding in every aspect of the life of a teacher, including tutor/homeroom responsibilities. We had found that some of the previous interns had had pushback from parents and they didn't have the experience to manage those engagements and found it challenging. In 2025, we have also changed course regarding our approach by taking in our first intern who will be with us for more than one year. This was to ensure that we could attract and secure more Maths interns and help to develop them over a longer period of time. 2/20/2025 5:07:42 PM - Message: ResponseValue(0/1) to add :- questionText:1.
