It was challenging situation but the staff managed the sudden transition. 2/5/2026 4:27:09 PM - Message: ResponseValue to add :- questionText:Please note any significant changes to the Teacher Learnership Programme in 2025:, Value:• No notable changes to TLP at Pinelands High School in 2025 2/5/2026 4:27:09 PM - Message: ResponseValue to add :- questionText:1. Please elaborate on how the school tracks the Optima interns:, Value:• Recently graduated interns are tracked through e-mail and WhatsApp to ensure a smooth transition into employment. Once settled in employment, there is less contact and greater reliance is placed on the graduated intern to stay in contact with the school should they change schools/employment. 2/5/2026 4:27:09 PM - Message: ResponseValue to add :- questionText:1. Please share the highlights in 2025:, Value:• Key highlights included: 1) One of the interns who started the programme who was shy. While something had been recognised in him during the selection process, there were some small concerns about how shy he was and how he would manage in the classroom with our fairly robust students. He really committed himself to growing, with support from the mentor and Programme Manager, and became a very valued member of the Maths Department, assisting when one Maths teacher was suddenly seconded to the WCED as a subject adviser. 2) Another highlight was the way in which the interns all got very involved with many aspects of school life, volunteering to assist with events and activities. There was very evident growth in each of them, which has resulted in them all being employed from the start of 2025 - a huge highlight. 2/5/2026 4:27:09 PM - Message: ResponseValue to add :- questionText:2. Any challenges in 2025:, Value:• It was more that it was unexpected/unplanned and that we hadn't encountered it before on the Intern Programme. One of the interns (and her partner) discovered that they were (against all medical odds) pregnant. This was within the first term of school. Together with feedback and guidance from Optima, we worked out a programme for her that included maternity leave (during which she was able to assist the English department remotely)``. She returned in time to be able to complete her second mandatory Teaching Practice and was accommodated by the school in completing the requirements. We are delighted that she was able, with good family support and some reduced after hours responsibilities at school, complete the year as well as her PGCE. 2/5/2026 4:27:09 PM - Message: ResponseValue to add :- questionText:3. Please share any lessons learnt and recommendations for the Teacher Learnership Programme:, Value:• We certainly find that, where an intern is younger, there are great benefits to having them intern over a few years. It is great for the mentors to be able to build upon the previous year and to set longer term development targets. Another observation is how useful it is to have a unique approach to each intern. Some are classroom ready far sooner than others, so they are released to teach a whole class far sooner. They all get there in the end, with more scaffolding for some. As always, we are so grateful to Optima for the investment in teacher equipping. We are convinced that it is one of the best investments that can be made in helping to shape quality teachers for the country. 2/5/2026 4:27:09 PM - Message: ResponseValue(0/1) to add :- questionText:1.
